Like planned, I went to Candle again for dinner tonight! Aren’t you surprised that I’m not tired of it in the slightest?! I always have the best time and the greatest meals there.. it’s just so enjoyable!
My dad was arrived starving, so he ordered the Guacamole appetizer with the crudite instead of tortilla chips. I didn’t want to fill myself up before my entree came, so I just had a couple of the carrot sticks dipped in the guacamole, but I can confidently say that this guacamole is the best I’ve tried! It was perfectly seasoned, and just SO delicious… MMMMMmmm!! My dad cleaned this plate in an instant.
For my entree, I ordered one of the specials of the night which was a Grilled Seitan Steak with garlic herb mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, and caramelized onions with a side of country gravy. What I loved most about this meal was that it was so simple, yet so bold and flavorful at the same time. The seitan was juicy and tender with a citrus tang to it, and the caramelized onion topping put it over the top.. it was mouthwatering! The mashed potatoes were chunky and rustic, and packed with plenty of delicious herbs, and the steamed broccoli was a light and refreshing addition to the meal. Because everything had so much flavor on it’s own, I let each component “speak” for itself, and passed on the gravy. Light, refreshing, and yummy! So comforting!
My dad ordered the Tuscan Lasagna which is described as grilled zucchini, peppers and onions, tofu basil ricotta, soy cheese and seitan ragout topped with a tomato truffle sauce, served on a bed of sautéed greens. Having tried this before, I can safely say that it was a terrific choice! My dad, who is extremely critical of food, said he liked it better than traditional meaty lasagna! He polished off the entire meal, and said it was so great that he practically took a bite of the plate!
Onto dessert. I knew my dad would go wild over the Chocolate Mousse Pie, so that’s what we ordered. We literally gobbled it up in 50 seconds flat, that’s how incredible it was. Out of all the Candle desserts I’ve tried, this just can’t be beaten! It’s just so decadent and creamy, it’s almost as if it’s unreal! My dad described it as “a slab of chocolatey heaven.” Chocolatey heaven, indeed!! It was extra fabulous tonight considering I haven’t ordered it in a while.. I can’t rave about it enough! If any of you have the opportunity to go to Candle one day, you must order the Mousse Pie.. it’s simply irresistible!
One thing I love so much about eating at Candle is how great I feel after leaving. I just crave their delicious and healthy food day in and day out.. no other restaurant holds a Candle to Candle (haha, pun intended!!) in my opinion! Can’t get enough!
Now that I’m home, I’m going to relax in bed for a while.. it’s been a long day, and I’m quite tired! If I find some inner strength within me, I might also get into the kitchen and make a loaf of Banana Bread considering I have three super ripe bananas that are pretty soon going to be singing their swan song! I’m off.. see you all tomorrow!

That lasagna is calling my name! Tofu basil… tomato truffle… grilled onions… too many of my favorite things all at once! And the seitan steak looks like classic comfort food. I’m away for the summer, but am planning to hit Candle as soon as I get back to NYC, and am going to have absolutely NO idea what to order.
By the way, if you ever do apply for a job there, all you’ll have to do is refer the manager to your blog and it’ll be in the bag ;)

I just about jumped for joy the other day when my sister said she would be willing to go to NYC for vacation… My fingers are crossed that next family trip will be to New York, and my first request will be Candle, thanks to your awesome posts.
Since you post a lot about that Chocolate Mousse Pie, I think of it every time I see a chocolate mousse recipe. It looks so incredible. I wonder if I could find a yummy chocolate mousse pie recipe and make it and pretend I’m eating at Candle… :)
